It's embarrassing that not only did you lose your phone, but you willingly rolled over and gave access to the attacker to be able to sell it. This to me screams that it's just a just a way to protect their ego. They fall victim to those ridiculously fake phishing websites all the time. Just think about how dumb the average person is. "No, it was the computer (which millions of other users are using without incident) that somehow gave those people aces to my shit." They gave up their PIN, got phished or something.

There are plenty of documented cases of people having their bank accounts scraped clean a few hours after having their locked phones stolen. I don't know how they do it, but there seems to be some not well known exploit making the rounds on the deep web. It's a whole issue in Brazil, all over the media, and Apple refuses to acknowledge it. I don't have any specific info about this but a few countries have an epidemic of iPhones (yes, newer models too) being stolen and bypassed so criminals can have access to all your banking apps if you were using FaceID for them.
